Sustainability, quality and true craftsmanship with ♥
Quality
We have been making combs from wood and horn for you for decades. Our customers get in touch regularly and proudly tell about their up to 30
year old comb. Quality is the be-all and end-all for us. But what do we mean by that?
For me and my team, quality means:
- longevity of the products
- Gentle on scalp and hair
- Smoothly ground and rounded teeth
- Polished tooth tips
- Ideal combing feeling
- Quality selection of wood and horn
Due to the fact that these criteria are our top priority, we develop an ideal combing feeling for you.
sustainability
The term sustainability is used in many ways today
and usually each individual understands something different by it.
It is therefore important for us to explain in which areas we take sustainability and the aspect of climate protection into account.
CO2 neutral wooden combs
For around 100 years we have been sourcing electricity and heat from the
in-house hydropower. We feed in an additional 200 MW per year and
thus support the share of renewable energies. Our combs are mainly made of wood. This wood has energy and many years ago
Carbon is stored and thus removed from the atmosphere. As long as this
is not further burned, it stays away from the atmosphere. Because of these aspects, we describe our production as CO2-neutral.
You may consume this product with good knowledge from an ecological point of view, without counting this against your own CO2 footprint!
Resource saving and short transport routes
In production, the aspect begins with the delivery of the wood. We pay more attention to the fact that our wood is felled regionally. This means that we source around 80 percent of the wood from a region of 100 kilometers. We also only buy wood that is untreated. After receipt and storage, we make sure to produce the right comb from the wood so that there is as little waste as possible.
longevity of the products
An important aspect for us is conscious consumption.
Our combs last up to 30 years. We constantly receive this feedback from our satisfied customers. The longevity of the products is a valued and rare feature today, which we support with our products.
True handwork with ♥
The manual work begins from the moment the wood is delivered. After the wood around 8 to
12 years, we decide on the type of comb depending on the type of wood and the type of log. The log may be infested with cracks that dictate what comb is possible from that wood.
If the wood is ideal for the type of comb, then it is sawed, sanded and polished until
the comb feels soft on the scalp, sorting the hair gently and with a good grip at the same time. Our comb cutting machines are still made by hand to this day
operated, as well as grinding and polishing. This gives each comb an individual touch.
We manufacture a wooden comb from a blank to a wooden comb in several work steps
ground and polished comb. Each of these individual steps is followed by quality control.
With respect for the tree, which is usually more than 100 years old, we produce a valuable and individual comb and are happy to find the right comb for the customer in every customer conversation.
This is how a comb is made in our workshop
In our workshop in Germany we store, test, saw, grind, polish, find ideal, pack and ship. C02 neutral thanks to the in-house hydropower. We work with joy and ♥
Styling comb Frieda & Paul for fine hair - wide and fine toothed
May I introduce:
Frieda & Paul styling comb with coarse and fine teeth, approx. 16 cm long, made of maple wood
My grandfather made it, my father and I too. The individual production steps are the same and the demand for quality has been high for generations.
work sequence
1st is the blank - it is tapered
2. the thin bar is removed
3. There is a separate saw blade for each set of teeth - sawing is done tooth by tooth
4. The comb is sanded smooth on the belt sanding machine and given its shape
5. Each individual tooth is ground and polished smooth
From generation to generation
"Comb out, it's still time, sin and vanity."
What triggered me this guild saying as a teenager.
Until my father explained to me what he means to himself.
My father never made a comb when he was sad or had a grudge. Today I went one step further: When I enter the workshop, I'm happy and with heart and mind at work.
