Questions about products

We generally recommend the following points for combing your hair:

  • The longer your hair is, the more important it is that you untangle your hair from the bottom up
  • First with wider teeth and then with finer teeth
  • To protect your hair please comb your hair before washing or brush it with a boar bristle brush to care for your hair.
  • Dandruff is removed from the hair and the sebum is distributed into the dry areas of the hair.
  • Please comb wet hair with wider teeth than dry hair. Since wet hair is more sensitive and tends to break more easily, please avoid excessive force and be as loose as possible.
  • Please do not brush your wet hair. With the large area of the brush you five significantly more strength to your hair and a pulling out or breaking of the hair is more likely.
  • Comb your hair until you reach the scalp with the tips of your teeth and massage your scalp while combing.
  • Combing from the forehead to the neck is pleasantly soothing and stimulating from the neck to the forehead.

Combing does well, take your time.

Yes, please especially comb your wet hair with a wooden or horn comb. Combing is much gentler on wet hair than brushing. Neither the wood used nor the horn have a high suction effect for water. They are happy about combing in wet hair. Leaving it in the water is too much.

We manufacture our combs from different selected and fine pored hard woods. Especially wood from wild service tree and service tree are much rarer than maple, hornbeam or cherry and have a high price.

Yes, an untreated wooden comb in 100% neutral to the hair und does not charge it. If you notice hair flying while combing, the cause can be different. Static electricity from the floor, clothing, or shampoo you use.

If keratin and keratin rub together and you have very thin and fine hair you can fell a slight electrostatic charge. In our experience, this static charge often has a positive effect on detangling the hair.

Comb wet hair, brush dry hair. Before cutting your hair, have you ever experienced a trusted hairdresser is brushing your wet hair? No, he carefully combs your hair from the bottom up. With a comb you can sort your wet hair more carefully and gently than with a brush that has a much larger area. We recommend brushing your hair for styling or intensive natural hair care.

No, we are comb maker. The brushes we offer are made in Europe and meet our high quality standards.

My grandfather – Martin Christian Groetsch – was the last comb maker master in Germany. The abbreviation is M. Groetsch. My father took over the business in 1992 and my father´s name is Martin Groetsch. And today it´s me – Melanie Groetsch. I am running in the 5th generation. It is exciting that the abbreviation M. Groetsch is coherent for 3 different people.

My favorite and most important step among the many others is the selection of the wood after storage. Which kind of wood should be used for which type of comb, where are cracks, where is the heartwood with the most tension? Out of respect for the wood and the fact that the trees whose wood we use are between 100 and 300 years old before they are felled, it is very important to me to make as much comb out of the wood as possible. For me, that´s the most sustainable aspect of manufacturing. I see that our electricity comes from our hydro power and that the plastic-free packaging goes without saying. In the case of the horn plates, it is the thickness and length of the horn plate that determine which comb is made from it.

Sustainability and the quality of our wooden combs are the center of our company philosophy. Bamboo has to be transported form Asia to Germany, glued and is so coarse-grained that the finished product is apt to get caught the hair in the “wood”. The property of absorbing water is a secondary disadvantage. If I used woods such as beech, steamed beech or pear, walnut or elm, I would have to polish the combs with beeswax or a similar polishing agent in the so that the pores are closed and every tooth is smooth. In the long run, this polish will not stay on the comb. Combing wet hair and cleaning with lukewarm water and soap removes the polish and the wood becomes uncomfortably fibrous and can damage your har. There are not combs that I want to manufacture and sell. Woods such as oak, ash or common softwood are too coarse-grained. Here as with bamboo, the hair could stick to a protruding fiber. The types of wood we use are ideal for our combs and polishing with beeswax or other means is not necessary. The tooth is mechanically processed so smoothly that it is gentle on your hair and with the first combing it absorbs your hair fat and cares for your hair. That is our claim to quality. Combing does well and is healthy.

Because we believe, that it is unsustainable to use doble the amount of glue and the required energy – dyeing wood – should be avoid to protect the climate.

Yes, a polished and waxed wooden comb shines beautifully and glides gently through your hair, regardless of the type of used wood. It is important to us that the individual teeth of our combs remain smooth even after use it in wet hair so that you enjoy your comb for a long time. In real handwork we sand the wood of our combs so fine, that we can do without polishing with beeswax or similar materials. We thus ensure that the wooden comb is untreated and can absorb your hair oil very well and release it into dry areas of the hair.

It is cheap, mostly indestructible and insensitive to water.

When and where my father met the lady many years ago who asked him to do something like the extended hands out of wood, we no longer know. She said that he does have such spikes anyway and that the should just be thicker and more stable. Little by littly my father groped his way around until a practical spaghetti server or salad servers was created that was easy to hold in his hand. I still remember the early days well. There was the event “Gauklerfest in Berlin”, my father and I were there together and my father showed me the spaghetti server made from the wood of olive tree, wild service tree and service tree. Beautiful spaghetti server with an extremely smooth feel. All around very classy. Actually, only beech should be used for this, since you need a lot of wood for it. What did we do? We just set the price fair and high. Far too high for my father and what happened? The spaghetti server made of olive wood, service tree wood and wild service tree wood were the first to be sold out. A wonderful experience. That is why the spaghetti server / salad servers made from a wide variety of woods are part of our range.

Questions about shipping and payments

Orders received by 10.00 a.m. Monday to Friday will be shipped the same day (except holidays).

We usually ship with DHL GoGreen. Within Germany a delivery often succeeds the next day. Please allow 2-3 days for delivery due to the current situation. Within Europe the delivery time can be one week and more.

Yes, we ship as far as possible without any plastic. However, if bubble wrap or similar has been used during packing, it has been re-used.
The shipping of a comb can also be sent as a “letter” and would therefore be cheaper. Due to our customer experience, it is important to us that the shipment receives a tracking number and that we receive a confirmation that the customer has received his order. This works very well with DHL Paket. We are open for alternatives, you are welcome to send us your criticism by email (info@kammacher.de).

Questions about natural haircare

The hair thickness and the properties such as straight or curly hair determine the hair type. Like the skin types, there are also mixed forms. Please do not see the following classification as non plus ultra, but as a tendency, because of reducing billions of people to 3 hair types does not do the hair justice. To recognize the properties of the hair you need a mirror at most. Is your hair straight, slightly wavy or curly? When it comes to hair thickness, many people find it more difficult to make an assessment because a lot of thick hair can give the impression of strong hair. If you want to know exactly, the following distinguishing features will help you. Check out one of your scalp hairs: Fine hair thickness: When viewed in the light, it is slightly translucent and fells like a silk thread between your fingers. Normal hair thickness: When viewed in the light, the light barely shines through or not at all and between your fingers your hair feels like a cotton thread. Strong hair thickness: Light does not get through the hair at all and it feels strong to almost bristly between your fingers.

Is the motto “No Poo” or “Sebum only” the best form of natural hair care or is natural hair care the lack of synthetic substances? Is a sugar surfactant that is naturally contained in “naturally” advertised and certified organic shampoos? There will be no one answer to these questions. How natural you want to integrate hair care into your life is up to you. For me, my own awareness and awareness of real natural products are in the foreground. Completely chemical-free natural hair care is no soap or shampoo. You will find more information in our blog about “Sebum only” and “No Poo”. The key to natural hair care is your well being. My recommendation is: A comb made of wood and horn that you like to use in wet and dry hair. Brushing with the boar bristle brush naturally cares for your hair and helps you to use less shampoo or soap bit by bit.

Our body is a miracle of nature. The main component of our hair is keratin. So that the pine cone-shaped scale structure does not dry out, each scalp hair is accompanied by a sebum gland that produces the hair oil. This hair fat is ideal for the care of our hair. When we wash our hair with soap or shampoo, we regularly wash this valuable care out of our hair. It works. With patience and a good boar bristle brush you can doe without soap and shampoo and only clean your hair with water. Brushing with the boar bristle brush distributes excess hair far right down to the tips of the hair. Before brushing it is advisable to untangle the hair with a fine toothed comb and remove dandruff and dust from the hair. This type of hair care is suitable for anyone who wants to leave as few artificial substances on their hair as possible. If you are taking medication, please talk to your doctor about whether it es excrete through the skin. If so, I do not recommend – sebum only – as you will spread toxins all over your hair by brushing with the boar bristle brush.

The different toothings of our wooden combs

Tooth width 6 mm – spacing 6mm

The extremely wide tooth is the youngest tooth.

My father, Martin Groetsch, developed the extremely-wide tooth at the end of the 90s, as the demand from customers with very curly hair was increasing.

The extremely wide teeth are particularly suitable for strong and very curly hair.

The curls are preserved.

Comb curls in such a way, so that the curls remain

Our combs are pure handwork. Each comb is unique and different from the other.

The more curly your hair is, the more sensible it is to use an extremely wide tooth with a thin or pointed tooth tip, so that you can comb the curly hair as effortlessly as possible, starting at the hairline.

Since the majority of our customers do not want pointed teeth, please leave us a note with your order if you are interested.

Tooth width 4mm – spacing 3mm

The extra wide tooth is the most sold tooth since years, because you can comb almost every wet hair with it gently and easily and it is very pleasant on the scalp.

Whether as a handle comb or as a styling comb, whether in combination with other teeth, with the extra wide teeth you can comb straight to curly, fine to strong hair effortlessly.

The teeth are also very popular for combing through the hair before hair-care brushing with the boar bristle brush.

Would you prefer round or pointed tips? Please let us know in the comments when ordering.

Each comb is unique and purely handmade.

Tooth width 1.6mm – spacing 1.6mm

The wide tooth is suitable for combing wet hair, for fine, short, wet hair.

For dry hair it is suitable for styling. When combed through, the hair is pulled straight. Curls become voluminous, wavy hair.

Tooth width 1mm – spacing 0.8mm

The fine teeth are ideal for combing hair smooth and parting it the way you want.

Please only comb wet hair with the fine teeth if you have very fine, not too much and short hair.

Tooth width 0.8mm – spacing 0.4mm

In the past, extra-fine teeth were used to comb out dust, dandruff or vermin.

Today, the extra-fine teeth are found in the classic dust comb or hair cutting comb (spacing 0.5mm).

The dust comb is often used as a beard comb, for not too thick beard hair or for the hair of babies and small children.
